Earn Cash Back when Shopping Online

There are many sites, apps, browser extensions that allow you to earn cash, various tokens, or gift cards while you shop or browse.

We take a look at some of the ones that pay cash and find out some essential information. Are they available to you in your country? Is the website live? Does it have an app?

Websites

BeFrugal

Based in the USA but the rest of the world can join as long as you take your payment by PayPal. To earn cashback, you must be logged into your BeFrugal account.
You can find retailers that are paying cashback and the amount of cashback they are paying on BeFrugal. Cashback rates vary from 1% to 50%.

Click on the ‘Shop Now’ button on any cashback eligible coupon or deal and you will be taken to the retailer’s website. Complete your purchase and Cash Back will be added to your BeFrugal account within 7 days.
When you click on links from BeFrugal’s website, it sets a cookie in your internet browser. This cookie indicates to the store that you came from BeFrugal. This is how the store knows to report the sales and Cash Back you earned to your BeFrugal account.

Rakuten

Cashback is not available to residents of the European Economic Area (EEA)
However, in the UK they do run a points-based system for your shopping. rakuten.co.uk

To get rewarded for shopping, shop on Rakuten.com or the Rakuten App, or use a free browser extension to get cashback on your purchases.
Cashback is paid every 3 months either by a physical check or PayPal payment.


Ibotta

ibotta.com

Ibotta works like most cashback sites, download a free browser extension or mobile app, and sign up for an account. There are no coupons or points involved it’s just cash. You get cashback as soon as your order is confirmed. Earn cash back whenever you shop, both online and in-store. Works at stores including Dominos Pizza and GAP!

The ibotta app

With the app, you can enable alerts that will let you know when you’re near an Ibotta retailer so you can earn when you shop.

There are three ways to get cash with the app.

  • Pay with Ibotta

Pay with Ibotta is a mobile pay feature that gives you instant cashback on your entire in-store purchase — you just have to link a credit or debit card. This is available in over 50 stores.

  • Link your loyalty accounts

Link your loyalty accounts for your favorite retailers in the Ibotta app to start earning cashback at stores you visit all the time. Shop and use your loyalty card at checkout, as usual, to save on qualifying offers. You’ll see your cashback in your Ibotta earnings within 24 hours.

  • Submit a receipt

More than 400 retailers list offers in the Ibotta app. That’s a lot of savings! Before you shop in-store, add offers in the app. Then, submit a photo of your receipt in the Ibotta app and earn cashback on your qualifying purchases within 24 hours.

Exchange your tokens for PayPal cash or vouchers from a choice of different retailers
This is an app that is only for permanent residents of the UK.

Cash back sites no longer working or no longer being maintained and updated

If you have one of these apps on your phone it would be best to remove them.

Punchcard.com

The Punchcard App is no longer working. The website is still online but doesn’t appear to be updated. Their last Twitter post was back in 2015.

Conclusion

You can earn some extra money by doing the shopping online you would be doing anyway. A cashback amount on a qualifying purchase may not individually be large. It may just be a small amount, maybe sometimes only 1 or 2 percent, but each bit of cashback can add up over the months and years.
